Term Paper Dr. Bollinger April 8, 2010                        The Use of Symbols in The waking up Throughout The Awakening, by Kate Chopin, a great deal of the deeper message behind the story can be seen though the mathematical function of symbols.   These symbolic elements help create a deeper connective to Ednas world and her eventual modifyings.  Some symbols used formerly much and again passim the story are boos, houses, art, clothing and the ocean.  singly of theses things is connected to Edna in a way that helps her become the women she neer thought she could be.  Ultimately Edna awakens into someone completely variant from the women she at a time was.  Her Awakening creates in her a realization that her tone is not being fulfilled and eventually she takes her give life.             In The Awakening birds appear throughout the refreshing, Chopin uses birds to mean diametric things at different times; howe ver, they are a uninterrupted symbol throughout the book. Each time a bird is used in the book it containes some kind of emotion.  In some aspects birds champion freedom.  Edna feels trapped in a no-good wedding, in a bad life and she longs to fly out-of-door from her problems.  Caged birds also patch up the entrapment of women.  Maya Angelou, a modern poet a good deal uses caged birds in her poetry proving that this is a common symbol in literature.
